Gurudongmar Lake

Gurudongmar Lake is a high-altitude lake, situated at a formidable 17,000 ft, which makes it one of the highest lakes in the world. The region, believed to be blessed by Guru Padmasambhava, houses a temple of the Guru beside the lake, filling the air with spirituality.
The folklore is further promoted as the lake completely freezes during the winters except for one spot, which is believed to be blessed.
The lake is exotic also because the Chinese-Tibetan border is just a few kilometres from it. Tourists may also require Inner Line Permit, issued by local tour operators, to visit this region of North Sikkim as it is a sensitive zone.
Location: The lake is located at a distance of 190 km from Gangtok and at a distance of 5 km from Tibetan (Chinese) border.
