Hanuman Tok is a sacred place, located in the pristine hills of Gangtok, that attracts both pilgrims and tourists. The temple, dedicated to Lord Hanuman, is about 11 km away from Gangtok's centre, offering a beautiful blend of spirituality and natural surroundings. Dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the temple is situated roughly 11 km from the heart of Gangtok and is an exceptional combination of spirituality and natural beauty.

Hanuman Tok provides a spiritual retreat and tourists are rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan range. Admire the temple’s beautiful architecture, decorated with bright prayer flags. It holds a statue of Lord Hanuman, the monkey deity celebrated in Hindu mythology for his power and devotion.

It is believed that Lord Hanuman stopped here on his way back to Lanka from the Himalayas bearing the Sanjeevani herbs to cure Lord Lakshman. This is the reason why the temple is also popularly known as the wish-fulfilment temple.

How To Reach

  • By Road: Hanuman Tok is around 5 km from Gangtok city centre. You can easily reach there in approximately 15 minutes by taking a shared jeep/taxi via JN Road. It is an affordable and the most convenient option to reach Hanuman Tok. Additionally, you can also take a private taxi or even drive yourself to reach Hanuman Tok. It is comparatively an expensive option than shared taxis, however, it gives you the freedom to explore Hanuman Tok at your own pace and other attractions as well. 

Best Time To Visit

  • Best Day of the Week: The best day of the week to visit Hanuman Tok is Tuesday, the auspicious day of the Hindu deity Lord Hanuman. However, if you want to avoid heavy crowds and longer queues at the Temple, it is suggested that you visit during the weekdays.
  • Best Time of the day: The best time to visit Hanuman Tok is during the early morning and in the evening to witness the mesmerising sunrise and sunsets.
