Jelep La Overview

The Jelep La is a mountain pass in Sikkim that connects Lhasa to India. This pass is located 4 kilometres south of the Nathu La but it has a slightly higher elevation.

History suggests that this route was widely used for trade purposes between India and Tibet. In fact the Kalimpong point was used as the contact point for both countries. The name of the pass comes from the Tibetan word which means the lovely level pass. \

The locals also called it the shepherds bronze pass. The pass is located at a height of 14000 feet and is located close to Menmecho lake. TheJelep La pass has some of the best views worth admiring, thanks to the forests and the flowers which are in full bloom.

Visit Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple

As the name suggests, this is a temple dedicated to Baba Harbhajan, a soldier from the Indian army who died in the late 1960s. To honour him, a memorial was built near the Chhokya Chho at an elevation of 4000 metres. To reach this temple, visitors will have to climb 50 stairs to reach the bunker, which is the site of the memorial. This is visited by both locals and tourists to get a glimpse of this memorial.

This is a war memorial dedicated to the soldiers of the Indian army who lost their lives in the 1962 war. There are more than 250 soldiers whose names are inscribed on the memorial and are worth checking out.
