Sikkim Temperature

1. Sikkim Weather and Temperature During Summers

The geographical location of the alluring Indian Union Territory, Sikkim displays myriad colours and sights during summers. Starting in March, the Sikkim temperature takes a turn for the warmers compared to the previous months of snow and freeze. The transitioning landscape has traces of snow in parts, especially the mountainous regions. And on the contrary are lush carpets of fresh grass, meadows in bloom and a shift in the skies. Warm tones and pleasant temperatures fill one up with seasonal glee, making the ideal time to plan a trip and experience the most of the Sikkimese galore.

This time of the year also marks the organizing of the much apt ‘flower festival’, showcasing a variety of fragrant and evocative florets. Other than that, all the trails in the UT also re-open for treks and other visits. So, if you are an adventure thirsty being, the summer Sikkim Weather would be great to explore the altitudinal outlooks like the Himalayan Mountains, Rhododendron Valley in North Sikkim and more. But the fun and recreation don’t end here, Sikkim between March and June is also a hotspot for other activities like - Kayaking, mountaineering, canoeing, hand gliding, camping etc. that you may not be able to indulge in during other seasons.

The Sikkim Climate, on an average, records 600 mm rainfall annually. And the result of this cats and dogs weather, the entirety of the Union Territory rouses to natural opulence. With stronger gushes of waterfalls, rivers flowing with a heavier movement, more variety of flora and fauna, and the landscapes in a new, misty lens are all too good to be missed. And even though the rains can be the cause of landslides and a bit of a task to travel from both air and road.

This time of the year is also at its pique to experience certain adventures, such as - bird watching, water rafting, Monsoon flowering in North Sikkim, Sightseeing and more. Embracing sombre and grey-white tones in the sceneries, everything that meets the eye becomes unintelligible. Beginning of November, the weather in Sikkim starts converting to dry and frigid that ultimately leads to snowing in Mid-November and December and stays so till the end of February.

In the first half of the winter months, there are blizzards and gales that make it unfavourable to visit and vacation in the region. But if you can endure the tough temperatures and climate, Sikkim is a gratifying haven indeed. Almost all places of tourist interest remain open in this season, except the high altitude regions. Apart from the amusement of sightseeing and the soothing views, Sikkim becomes host to several festivals, including the Mangan music festival, Maghey Sankranti, Lossong, Losar and the most iconic Gutarcham where masked monks perform the Cham Dance in monasteries across the UT.
