Attend Sakteng Festival

Situated at an altitude of 3000 metres, Sakteng is a beautiful valley located in eastern Bhutan and inhabited by ‘Brokpas’, a semi-nomadic community. This community hosts an annual three-day festival, named Sakteng Tshechu Festival during which everyone comes together to celebrate and worship.
You will also get to see the popular mask dance of Bhutan called ‘Ache Lamoi Cham’ and ‘Yeti Dance’. As per the folklore, the mask dance is to commemorate Guru Rinpoche who wore a mask and performed a unique dance to subdue the demons. It is a colourful and lively festival during which locals gather to party with rounds of Ara, a local wine.

Climb up to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten

The construction of Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten was ordered by Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck, the queen of Bhutan in 2004. As per the locals, the stupa was built to keep away the evil spirits from Bhutan and spread peace worldwide. To reach this stupa you will need to hike through the rice terraces and lush green paddy fields which is a memorable experience. Inside the stupa, you will get to see various spellbinding paintings and sacred texts from the holy scriptures. Additionally, you can admire the 15-foot-tall statue of God Vajrakilaya and the golden statue of Sakyamuni Buddha.

See Artefacts at the National Museum

The different floors of the museum display different items such as Stone Age tools, bronze statues, collections of relics and Bhutanese dresses. The most fascinating display of the museum is a stone egg of a horse and a dagger which belonged to Dorje Lekpa, a protector of the country.

See Wildlife at Jigme Dorji National Park

The four national symbols of Bhutan; Cypress tree, Blue Poppy flower, Raven bird and Takin animal, all can be seen at this national park. You can also enjoy trekking on its beautiful trekking trails through snow-peaked mountains and alpine meadows. Jigme Dorji National Park is also famous for offering the largest number of hot springs in the country where you can enjoy a refreshing bath.
