Inverness Cathedral Overview

Also known as the Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew, the Cathedral was opened in the year 1583 just opposite the River Ness and is one of the top tourist places to visit in inverness. This beautiful Cathedral is built in Red Tarradale Stone and has five bays divided by Peterhead granite.

This building is a superb illustration of Alexander Ross's style of design, and it features exquisite stone and wood carvings, as well as magnificent stained glass windows. Witness the white marble Angel Font which is a copy of the Kneeling Angel Font by the Danish sculptor Thorvaldsen in Copenhagen. The Cathedral is also known to host many concerts, events, and exhibitions throughout the year.

Once you enter the building, you will see a west door that will lead you to the nave. The west window is one of the main features of the Cathedral which was created to honor Bishop Eden and is known to show Christ in Glory at the last judgment. You can find the historical treasure of Inverness Cathedral in the north aisle, a 15th-century painting of Our Lady and the Christ Child by Sano di Pietro of Siena.
