Historical and Geographical Backdrop
- Rewari was founded by King Rewat, who named it "Rewa Wadi" after his daughter Rewati. He gifted it to her as dowry when she married Balram, Krishna’s elder brother. Over time, the name evolved into Rewari.
- During Mughal rule, a "Vanik" named Hem Chandra Vikramaditya, rose to become the army chief and prime minister of the Sur-Samrajya of the Suri Dynasty. He briefly ruled Delhi before being killed in the Second Battle of Panipat in 1556. Rewari remained part of Delhi's territory under the Mughals. Before the British took over, the place was a part of the Maratha Empire.
- Post Independence, Rewari district was formed in 1989.
