Visit Conciergerie

What started off as a royal castle eventually evolved into the House of Justice before becoming a jail in Paris. Because it served as a royal palace during its heyday in the 14th century, the opulent jail known as Conciergerie, located to the west of Île de la Cité, is considered to be one of the city's best structures. During the most turbulent period of French history, the French Revolution, this location served as a jail and was where captives were kept before being sent to be executed. The area remained a prison even after the revolution was over. However, it was accessible to the public later in 1914. The atmosphere of the jail is enough to make you feel eerie, melancholy, and nostalgic—all at the same time—and it surely rates as an unmissable experience when visiting Paris, despite the fact that there are only a small number of areas of the jail that are accessible to people.

Explore Sacré-Cœur Basilica

Sacre-Coeur Paris is one of the most prominent and well-known churches in the city, despite being a relatively new addition to the city's religious landscape. It's also considered to be the least appealing by some. Whatever your opinion, it stands out on the Paris skyline. After the turbulent year of the Franco-Prussian War and the Paris Commune, the French National Assembly commissioned Sacre-Coeur. During this time, Napoleon II fled to exile, Paris was under siege, and the riotous Paris Commune that followed resulted in thousands of deaths and the destruction of numerous structures, including the Hotel de Ville and the Tuileries Palace. France had also suffered a humiliating military defeat during this time.
