Scone Palace Overview

Scone Palace is the crowning palace of the Scottish Kings and the original home of the stone of Scone, an ancient symbol of Scottish sovereignty. The large and spectacular palace was built between 1802-1807 in Gothic Revival architectural style in the village of Scone by the chief architect William Atkinson. The palace has been a home to the royals of Scotland like Earls of Mansfield, who had commissioned the palace and lived here for almost 400 years.

The modern Scone Palace had been designed in red sandstone with a castellated roof, one of the distinctive features of the palace. While the construction of the palace and its design was looked over by William Atkinson, its extensive gardens were put up by John Claudius Loudon. The palace has found its mention amongst the best tourist places to visit in Dundee due to its legendary beauty. The collection of furniture, ceramics and other artefacts like ivories and clocks owned by the palace is amongst the most luxurious one.

The utilities collection belongs to famous designers like: Rococo chairs designed by Pierre Bara, porcelains by Robert Adam, vases by Vernee Martin and a writing desk by Jean- Henri Riesener. There are exotic decorations like the bed-hanging made by Mary Queen of Scots placed in the luxurious Lennox room, named after the Duke of Lennox.
