THE MC MANUS

The McManus is an art gallery and museum with heartseathing Gothic style architecture. Located in the centre of Dundee, it’s famous for the renowned art collections amassed by explorers, missionaries and merchant adventurers. The museum is one of the most beautiful and informative tourist places to visit in Dundee where the works of contemporary artists. Through their work, these artists tested the boundaries and the unique properties of drawing, film, photography, sculpture in their own unique ways.

The museum of The McManus is particularly famous for its fascinating architecture; it was commissioned by Prince Albert and designed by the architect George Gilbert Scott in 1867. The purpose behind its construction was to provide an academic and discursive space for the students of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, later on it was converted into a museum for students and the general public.

The inhabitants of Dundee had put on a huge donation ceremony to collect enough funds for the construction of the museum. The building was used for library services between 1873 and 1949, but in 1959, the city corporation took control of the building to turn it into an office and for the purposes of administration. The collection of the museum includes the works of the renowned artists like James Mclntosh, Patrick and Alberto Morrocco.
