Discovery Point and the RRS Discovery Overview

One of the most interesting places to visit in Dundee is the Royal Research Ship (RRS), Discovery which is now stationed at Discovery Point in Dundee. It was the ship that Captain Scott took on his expedition of Antarctica after its construction in the 1900s. There are various shows like audiovisual shows and computer based interactive experiences making your trip memorable.

The Royal Research Ship (RRS), Discovery was a wooden three-masted ship built in Dundee in 1900, used for the specific purpose of launching a research project in the Antarctic. The ship is the last of its kind in the United Kingdom, as people no longer used wooden materials for the construction of ship building. The renowned Captain Scott had its charge after its launch in 1901 for the mission of the British National Antarctic Expedition,

which in short is called “the Discovery Expedition”. Visitors on their tour to this iconic ship would hear its stories of utilisation during the first World War as a merchant navy ship. As well as about the background story of its christened name “Royal Research Ship '' which it got during its way back home from a research mission in the Southern Ocean. During the various expeditions, the ship had been proven helpful in recording valuable information about oceans, marine life and an exclusive project of conducting a scientific investigation into whale populations.
