The Broughty Castle has been turned into a museum where an amazing collection of life and times of Broughty Ferry, the history and stories of its people, wildlife and the environment is displayed. It’s located alongside the beautiful coast of Broughty Beach, where you could enjoy the mesmerising views apart from the extensive art collection.
Broughty Castle was built during the era of the 2nd Lord Gray, in the year 1490, following a charter passed by James IV which intended to increase naval activity along the river Tay. The castle had finally fallen in the hands of Britain in 1651. When the threat of French invasion was really high in the 1860s, the castle was upgraded with a modern artillery defence system which again was altered during the German threat in World War II.
Owing to the repository of scenic beauty and great history it carries in itself, it has been placed amongst the best tourist places to visit in Dundee. The castle at present has been turned into a museum which runs under the administration of Leisure and Culture Dundee. The display collection of the museum has different items suggesting the life and times of the Broughty Ferry, its inhabitants, its flora and fauna.
