Located near Bansura Sagar Dam, Meenmutty Waterfalls is known as one of the best waterfalls in South India and among the most popular tourist spots to visit in Wayanad. These spectacular waterfalls are situated in a thick, green forest and flow through a rocky platform.

They have major tiers that vary in height. You can reach the first tier by a roughly half km walk from the fall’s main entrance/parking area while you can reach the second tier by trekking through steps that have been built over boulders. The lower tier is smaller with a pool in which water collects – safe and fun for swimming.

Famed for being one of Kerala’s highest cascading falls, Nyayamakkad Waterfalls is located close to the entrance of the Eravikulam National Park. The falls are close to the Rajamalai entrance and a great place to visit along with the Eravikulam/Rajamalai Park.

Originating from Mulamkuzhi River, this waterfall, although smaller than most of the other falls in the state, is one of the most prominent in Kerala. It is also believed that the water that falls atop the hilly ranges is medicated and that bathing in the stream of the falls can cure a variety of skin diseases. It is also said that the water gets its medicinal properties from the powerful herbs that the falls’ water passes through in the hilly terrain.

One of the famous Kerala waterfalls, Kombaikani is situated in the upper part of the Neyyar reservoir. This is also where the Meenmutti Waterfalls lies. To reach the falls, you will need to trek through the forests, so it is an ideal place for those seeking adventure.

Keep in mind, in order to visit Kombaikani Waterfalls, as well as Meenmutti, you must obtain permission from the Kallar Forest Protection Group. You will need a guide to accompany you to the falls. This area is not only great for trekking but also bird-watching and picnics.

Literally meaning ‘snow-capped mountains,’ Thusharagiri is formed by two streams that originate from the Western Ghats and meet to form the Chalippuzha River, which then diverges into three waterfalls. Located on the west-flowing Chalakudy River at the edge of the Sholayar ranges and near the Vazhachal Forest Division, Vazhachal Waterfalls is just 5 km from Athirapally Falls’ entrance. The falls are one of the most peaceful tourism spots in the district of Thrissur.

If you are visiting the Athirapally Waterfalls, you should definitely stop here too. You can also visit Chapra Falls, which is another seasonal waterfall located on the way to Vazhachal Waterfalls.

Meenvallam (Meenvallom), a standout amongst the best-kept secrets of Central Kerala, is situated among Palakkad and Mannarkad. While discovering its way through Kalladikode slopes, River Thuppanad sprinkles down a few times, making waterfalls as it goes.

There are ten falls all together. A large portion of them is up to the slope and profound inside the forest. Meenvallom cascade is the last one, reachable by a 2 kms trek from the vehicle leave at Koomankundu shops. This walk is for the most part through rubber plantation.
