Overview

Maharashtra offers you a peek into the iconic history of Chhatrapati Shivaji and his empire through its gigantic forts nestling in the lofty, cool-green mountains. Kohoj Fort is one such destination in Maharashtra that treats all the adventure-seekers with panoramic views of blooming valleys, and rustling streams along the trail.

About the Trek
A few minutes drive on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, leads you to this exceptional monsoon trek that is sitting in a backdrop of a heart-shaped lake forming beautiful scenery. Trekking by the spectacular Vaitarna river, meanwhile exploring Temple ruins and the scenic salt-water lake, you will finally reach the pinnacle of the fort thus welcomed by the two giant stone men.

This 18-hour night trek lets you experience everything from the gentle slopes to the rocky mountains. The difficulty level is moderate, especially during monsoon, as the slippery rocks are not so friendly with beginners. These monsoon rains breathe back lush vegetation to this crumbling fort while reciting you the tales of Marathas’ bravery.

How to reach?
The fort is located in the district of Palghar, Maharashtra. You can easily get public and private transportation for Dadar from where pick-up service is provided.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 -

    10:30 pm: Meet at Dadar and Leave Mumbai by private bus

  • Day 2 -

    02:00 am: Reach base village Waghote

    03:00 am: Take rest and start the trek

    06:30 am: Reach the top to Kohoj Fort. Take rest and wait for Sunrise. Explore the fort. Take photos. Have breakfast at the top.

    09:30 am: Start descend

    12:00 am: Back to the base village

    01:00 pm: Have lunch

    02:15 pm: Start return journey for Mumbai

    06:00 pm: Reach Mumbai

    Nice trekking up to the Kohoj Fort, be well dressed and put comfortable shoes for the comfortable walked. Definitely, the trek was not hard at all but in the early morning at the dark walking, it was fun and as well unsafe so watched your steps carefully. No doubt the pace looks stunning as the same in the pictures, Exploring the fort was just awesome with the blowing of the wind breeze from the mountain felt so relaxing and tension-free.

    Big thumbs-up to the guide for well present performance in which everybody was so happy and appreciate towards the guidance skills, actually this trek was not hard at all and we all ascending and continue the walked it's dark so we hold each other hand sometimes in the terrain and slippery areas for safety, Reaching the top waited for the sunrise was amazing hot breakfast along with a mindblowing sunrise with beautiful mountains and lush greenery of the hills was totally worth it. Descent time was smooth. In the end, we were treated with an organic lunch. EFFORT WORTH IT.

    We came across all the beautiful places mentioned at the site while ascending but we are not able to see it at that time because it was dark but on the time of returning from the fort we see and get to explore along the walk with good photos and memories.
