History of Pawna Lake

Pawna lake is an artificial reservoir created by the construction of the Pawna Dam between 1963 and 1972. Beyond its natural beauty, Pawna Lake is surrounded by echoes of the past. The region is steeped in history, with its roots tracing back to the reign of the Maratha Empire. The nearby forts—Lohagad, Tikona, Tung, and Visapur—once served as strategic outposts guarding vital trade routes.
