Standing tall in the southern part of the Potala square in Lhasa is the Tibet Peaceful Liberation Monument which celebrates the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet. The monument is 37-meter-high spire and was designed by Professor Qikang of the South-East University of China. It is shaped as Mount Quomolangma.
Highlights: The Tibet Peaceful Liberation Monument has engraved names of the former general secretary and President Jiang Zemin. There is also an inscription referring to the “forces from Tibet in 1951 and also talks about the socio economic development. This monument is also stands as a tribute to freedom, joy, struggle, perseverance, rights for the Tibetian people.
Location: The monument is located in front of the Potala Palace, where it is flanked by a pair of Popular Army soldiers.
