Visit The Royal Museum

The museum is home to some of the most interesting collections of artefacts dating back to the old monarchy days of the Royal Family of Ladakh. This is a museum where anthropologists and historians frequently pay a visit. Here, you can find things like ancient coins, royal seals, precious jewellery and photographs. In fact, some of the thangkas in this museum are more than 400 years old. Apart from the thangkas, you can also find a lot of weapons like arrows, bows, swords and shields.

The top floor of the palace has a temple where you can visit and pay your respects. There is a resident monk who performs prayers here every day. When in the temple, make sure to stay silent, not disturb the proceedings, and observe the enchanting effect of the temple. If possible, you can even meet the Chemrey monastery once a year to get yourself an amulet. These amulets are handmade and are worth gifting to your near and dear ones.

Visit The Stok Gompa

This is a 14th-century Stop Gompa dating back to 550 years ago. The Stok Gompa is a set of religious structures founded by Lama Lhawang of the Geluk pa set. This is a monastery set that is relatively recent as it was renovated and is open to visitors. When visiting the Stok Gompa, tourists can check out the freshly painted murals of Buddhist folklore like Vajrapani, Avalokitesvara and Sakyamuni. Here, you can also check out the throne built especially for the Dalai Lama.
