After over a hundred years since its construction, the St. Mary’s Church in Gulmarg continues to stand in all its Victorian glory and stately architecture. The appearance of the church comes across as more like a tiny little quaint countryside chapel rather than a church, which makes it all the more endearing and popular among visitors. The gray stone walls of the church with wooden roofs lends the structure a vintage look and contributes to much of its appeal.
This is one of the most peaceful places in Gulmarg with the famous Gulmarg Golf Course surrounding it on three sides and majestic mountains on the other. The backdrop comprises acres of verdant meadows, towering pine trees and mystical mountains, all of which together give the place a charm you cannot overlook.
The church was built in 1902 during the British regime, which explains the typical colonial style and architecture. It however, underwent a major renovation in 2003 when the façade was considerably upgraded. The string lights that keep the church illuminated at night time are almost like a beacon of hope that keeps the nearby places alive and away from all evil.
