SEMTOKHA DZONG

Simtokha Dzong or Sangak Zabdhon Phodrang is a small castle monastery that is famous among tourists because of its architecture and location and is one of the best places to visit in Thimphu. The Dzong is located on a hilltop that is the strategically secure location from where one can see the whole Thimphu valley below.

The beautiful and mesmerizing Dzong was built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. It is the first of its kind in Bhutan which has historical importance and was a former Buddhist monastery. Now, it serves as one of the leading institutes to learn the Dzongkha language( a Sino-Tibetan language that is widely spoken in Bhutan).
