Saheliyon ki bari Overview

Saheliyon ki Bari or Garden of the Maidens is located in the City of Lakes, Udaipur. This is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in the city known for its themed water pools and scenic beauty. Rana Sangram Singh built this garden for his queen who was accompanied by a group of forty-eight maidens. It was built between 1710 and 1734 on the banks of Fateh Sagar Lake as a relaxing place for the royal ladies, away from the political intrigues. 

The garden is a masterpiece of beauty and architecture. It is built in typical Rajput style architecture covering 6 acres of land. It has four water pools with unique themes, fountains, and kiosks. The main pool is called Sawan Bhado which is adorned with marble pavilions in four corners. The other three pools are Kamal Talai, Rang Mahal, and Bin Badal Barsat. These pools are designed with unique themes of flowers, glass-coloured windows, and beautiful fountains.

Besides the beautiful garden, the site features a Museum with royal artefacts and paintings, a great cafeteria, a rose garden, and a nursery.

How To Reach

Saheliyon ki Bari in Udaipur is located on the banks of the famous Fateh Sagar Lake, just 1.3 km from the city centre. It is situated near Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal. 

1 By Car: If you have rented a car of your own, you can reach the site in 4 minutes from the city centre via SH 32 route.

2 By Local Bus: You can take a local bus going to Fateh Sagar Lake and Saheliyon ki Bari in 10 to 15 minutes.

3 By Taxi/Rickshaw/Tonga: Hire a taxi from the city centre for a convenient commute. If you want to enjoy a more feasible option, you can take a Tonga or Rickshaw to the attraction.

4 By Foot: You can also reach Saheliyon ki Bari by walking from the city centre. It is hardly a 15-18 minute walk.

Best Time To Visit

Saheliyon ki Bari is open all year round and all days of the week. Its opening hours are from morning 9 AM to evening 7 PM. The entry fee is Rs. 20 for Indians and Rs. 50 for foreign visitors.

1 Best Season to Visit: The ideal season to visit Saheliyon ki Bari is winter, from October to March. The weather is pleasant and breezy, good for strolling and roaming all day long. It is usually a peak season for tourists. 

2 Best Day of the Week: Weekends are usually quite busy and bustling with tourists as well as locals. If you want a quieter experience, visit Saheliyon ki Bari on weekdays.

3 Best Time to Visit: It takes 1 to 2 hours to enjoy the garden. The best time of the day to visit Saheliyon ki Bari is either early morning or late afternoon.

The second one is called Kamal Talai or Lotus Pool which has lotus-shaped fountains made of marble with four elephant statues surrounding it. The third one is Rang Mahal or Colour Palace, designed with dainty colourful glass windows that reflect the sunlight in different colours. The last one is the Bin Badal Barsaat or Rain without Clouds Pool which has five beautiful fountains adorning it.
