Graves Art Gallery Overview

Set out to explore the Graves Art Gallery, known as one of the top places to see in Sheffield, and home to the largest visual arts collection of the city since the year 1934. Located on the third floor of the Sheffield Central Library, it is in this gallery where you can marvel at an extensive collection of old masters and English art dating between the 18th and the 21st centuries. 

Located on the third floor of the Sheffield Central Library is the Graves Art Gallery, which has been the hub of the city’s visual arts collection since the year 1934. It is here where you can find a wide range of works by some of the most famous artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, from Cezanne and Picasso, to Burne-Jones, Turner, Bridget Riley as well as Grayson Perry, Damien Hirst, Braque and Corot. Although almost 90 years old, it still offers visitors a classic art gallery experience, owing to its polished brass bannisters, art deco gates as well as golden oak flooring. 

Some of the most famous exhibitions that have taken place at the Graves Art Gallery over the years have included works by major artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Blake, in addition to photographs from notable photographers including Tom Hunter, Angus McBain and Robert Mapplethorpe, to name a few. In addition to an extensive collection of English as well as old masters art dating from the 18th century onwards, the gallery also boasts of numerous beautiful portraits, sculptures and other contemporary artworks
