Botanical Garden, Srinagar Overview

Surrounded by the magnificent Himalayan ranges, the Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden is a must-visit place in Srinagar, Kashmir. It was built in 1969 to honour India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. The garden looks nothing less than a floral paradise, welcoming you with a landscape full of colourful flowers and a sweet aroma in the air.

It takes you on a surprising journey where one turn leads you to an open field full of orchids whereas the next turn leads you to a narrow path with towering trees on both sides. The garden is spread across 80 hectares of land, offering both native and foreign plant species. 

There are over 150,000 species of plants in the garden including orchids, roses, daffodils, tulips, lilies, hyacinths and ranunculus. You will also get to see the iconic chinar trees and oak forest. There are organised tours of the garden where guides inform you about the various species of plants and how they are taken care of. If you are a nature enthusiast, you can also participate in their workshops and volunteering programs on botanical conservation.
