Anne Hathaway's Cottage is a farmhouse located in Shottery, in Warwickshire. It is located about a mile from Stratford-upon-Avon. The farmhouse has 12 rooms, and is surrounded by gardens. The house was built from the 15th century onwards, in several phases. During the days of Shakespeare, the house was known as Hewlands Farm. There is more than 90 acres of land attached to it. It is the site of Shakespeare’s wife’s birth. The two also started their courtship from there.
Anne Hathway cottage remained with Anne’s family for 13 generations. However, later they had to sell it to Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, which started running it as a museum. The house also boasts of Tudor architecture and is almost 600-years old, as on date. A direct railway connectivity between London and Birmingham, paved the way for tourism. So, tourists would visit the place, without much hassle. The name ‘cottage’ may not be appropriate though, due to the fact that the house is too large. You can visit one of the best tourist places in Birmingham throughout the year.
