The attraction was built by the British in 1919, by the then Governor of Bombay, Sir George Sydenham Clarke, who laid the foundation of the monument in 1911. The plan was approved in 1914, after which construction began. The monument was built to honour the visit of King George V and Queen Mary, who was to arrive at Bombay. The architectural design of the Gateway of India is done in the Indo-Saracenic style, along with Muslim architectural styles incorporated when it comes to the archways. The Elephant Caves are located quite close to the Gateway of India and can be reached via a ferry from here. This sightseeing place in Mumbai is one of the largest aquariums in the city of Mumbai. Situated in Marine Drive, this aquarium was founded by D. B. Taraporewala, a Parsi philanthropist, in the year 1951. The aquarium has a twelve feet long three-sixty degrees glass tunnel that holds interesting marine life.There are several species of fish here, such as damselfish, butterfly fish, tiger fish, angelfish, moss, sea urchins, sea cucumber, marine eels, tube worms, tangs, batfish, puffer fish, tangs, jellyfishes, orandas etc that make this aquarium a highly diverse collection of marine life.
