Yercaud is one of the many hill stations in the Eastern Ghats of the Shevaroys Hills state of Tamil Nadu. Located at an elevation of 1515 metres above mean sea level, it is about 28-kms from the Salem district and boasts of a pleasant climate for most parts of the year.
The town is settled amongst coffee plantation and oranges and spice gardens, and boasts of a scenic natural lake that goes by the name Emerald Lake. The lake is especially popular amongst tourists as it is perfect for family picnics, boat rides or family gatherings. Yercaud is also famous for its several temples – The Servaroyan Temple and Sri Lalitha Sundari Amman Temple are the famous religious abodes here.
A must visit tourist attraction is the Killiyur falls, which flows almost 90-feet high during the monsoons. Yercaud is also famous as a trekking destination and hence popular with a lot of adventure buffs. The botanical gardens hosts various species of flora and the unique Kurinji flower, which blooms once every 12 years is found in the garden.
The nearest town for road and train travel is Salem (28-kms) and has good connectivity with most major cities for road and rail. Another option for people using railways is Jolarpettai (20-kms). The nearest major airport is Trichy International (163-kms) and the other one is Coimbatore airport (190-kms).
