Snorkeling in Seychelles

1. Anse Lazio: Anse Lazio is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world which looks picture perfect all around the year. This long beach is filled with white and soft sand with azure blue waves hitting the shore, the palm trees, and the granite boulders. Tourists come to this beach either to enjoy the beauty of this beach or for snorkeling among the rocks.

2. Morne Seychellois Park: This place has a dramatic landscape that is worth exploring as it is the largest archipelagos of Seychelles. Morne Seychellois National Park covers about 20% of Mahé’s land area and is a habitat for a wide variety of species. Other than a memorable snorkeling experience, this place offers one of the most rewarding hikes, to the highest peak of the island.

 This hike is worth going for as to get the best panoramic views of this place. Snorkeling here amidst the lush green forest and large mangroves is always a great idea!

3. Bird Island: This private island sanctuary houses untouched beaches and clear waters. Snorkel with the giant tortoise that roams the island and many other marine species that reside there. This island derived its name by being a shelter to a variety of bird species. This sanctuary is 1500x800 meters in area and to reach there, you need to take a half-hour flight from Mahé.

Exploring the underwater of Bird Island is a one of its kind experience that you must have in Seychelles. This place is best for people who demand a private and peaceful holiday with their partners and families. You will need to stay here for one night at least as the flights work only once per day.

4. Anse Badamier: Ande Badamier is situated north of Curieuses, which is an uninhabited bio-reserve island. It is not the kind of beach that is easy to find or reach and is often regarded as the hidden gem of Seychelles. With clean and calm water, it habitats the marine life you always wanted to meet. Dolphins, bump head parrotfish, shark pups and so many other fishes can be spotted while you snorkel in Seychelles. You can also take a boat ride to this untouched paradise and trek around this rocky place up to Anse Badamier to explore the beauty of this island.

5. Coco Island: The experience of snorkeling in Seychelles can’t get any better than Coco Island. There is a small charge to enter the park as it is maintained under Coco Island Marine Park. Since the 1970 forest fire, lots of efforts have been put to restore the ecological balance of this place and they are succeeding. This island now houses more than 300 species of reptiles from hatchlings to oldies who are up to 120 years old.

8. Silhouette Island Marine National Park: Silhouette Island Marine National Park is one of the largest marine parks in Seychelles containing sparkling water and granite rocks. This area is tourists’ favorite to snorkel because of its underwater flora and fauna. While snorkeling, you’ll be able to spot sharks, blue-spotted rays, and gray snapper fish. Located at the height of 740 meters, is the only paper part left in Seychelles. It is also the only place which got saved from facing deforestation. To protect this place, it got named Marine Park on 26th October 1987.

1. Baie Lazare: This beach is known for its clear turquoise waters and is lined with palm trees. Here you can enjoy yourself at the beach, swim or snorkel. The north-west is protected by the coral reefs and is the best place here to snorkeling.

2. Port Launay: This place provides you with two options to snorkel. Port Launay has two beaches, Port Launay North and Port Launay South. Both the beaches have equally calm waters that are known to deliver you a relaxing snorkeling experience. You can even stay at Constance Ephelia resort which is built in between both the beaches.

3. Beau Vallon: The southwest region of this beach is best known for snorkeling. There are other activities offered at this beach which contribute to the fame of the adventures it provides.

4. Anse Royale / Fairyland Beach: How do you imagine a marine fairyland? It is filled with fishes and corals wherever you look, right? These two beaches, located in the southeast region of Mahé are ideal for swimming and of course, snorkeling.

5. Sunset Beach: If you visit Sunset Beach between April and November, you’ll have the best experience of snorkeling here. This is the time when the underwater visibility is the highest. If you visit this northern Mahé bay, swimming becomes difficult as the waves and currents reduce the visibility.

6. Anse Soleil: At this beach too, snorkeling is recommended only in the months between April to November. It is at the southern end of Mahé which is covered in rocks and has deep waters. This place unlike other beaches is not protected by coral reefs.

It is recommended to go snorkeling in Seychelles from April to November. This is the time when the ocean/sea currents and the intensity of waves are minimal. Due to this, the visibility is higher and swimming becomes easier.
