Being a national level sportsman, I wasn’t a novice to adventure, however the idea of a bike trip to Leh and Ladakh was something I craved to check off from my bucket list. The trickiest roads and exhilarating slopes are something that quenches the thirst for any adrenaline junkie and so it was for me when I went there to have the adventure of a lifetime.
After some intriguing research and a friendly chat with the Thrillophilia representative, I could see my bike trip to Leh and Ladakh actually happening. So I went on to book my trip with Thrillophilia to experience the thrill of biking in Leh before any second thoughts come to haunt my judgement.
Here’s my account of the most enchanting bike trip I had to Leh this year.
Day 1 & 2: Beginning of the Adventure from Delhi to Manali
The incredible escapade commenced on September 3 from Majnu Ka Tila in Delhi, reached in the old school way with a map provided by my guide, who was going to my GPS for this journey. Here I met my fellow adventurers- 6 Icelanders traveling for a rendezvous with Leh.
An overnight bus journey took us to picturesque Manali and I got acquainted with the bike which was going to be my partner in paradise. After some test runs, snacks at Café 1947, twilight set in the sky and a rejuvenating stay was the gift of Manali.
Best moment of the day:
With peaceful vibes, postcard perfect landscapes, Manali will remain special to me for the thread of connection I felt with nature.
Day 3: An Eclectic Mix of Adventure and Sightseeing in Manali
It is known for its scenic beauty and marvelous activities that are done here, along with the camping in the valleys of Manali and thrilling river rafting, making Manali a must visit place. This day was to reconnoiter the marvellous sights of Manali. We visited the famous temples, grabbed a bite in the markets of Manali, and then headed to Solang Valley for a taste of thrill with ropeway rides and Quad biking. After a mini stopover at a rooftop café, thanks to the untimely rains, we later headed back to the hotel for dreaming and resting.
Best Moment of the Day:
It’s interesting how mundane things become exciting when you’re with extraordinary people- such was the experience of Hidimba Devi Temple and Manu Temple in Manali with travel mates from Iceland.
Day 4: A Spectacularly Scenic Ride from Manali to Jispa
I recount the thought-provoking advice I received that day- to control the impulses and experience the serenity without rushing into the treacherous trails. So, our caravan rode the twisting single lanes leading to an idyllic destination.

On the journey, we were fortunate to encounter the Rohtang Pass, notorious for its curves and turns. We completed the day descending to camps for a night in the breath-taking wilderness enveloped by mountains kissing the sky.
Best Moment of the Day:
It’s still fresh in my memory, camping in Jispa with the gurgling of river by the sparks of bonfire igniting the feeling of being transported to another time.
Day 5: A Thrilling Ride on Two Wheels from Jispa to Leh
After the sun embarked on its morning journey, we started ours at the speed of wind. The feeling of thrill joined me as I left everyone behind with only the sound of bike’s silencer escorting me. An invigorating stop in this 14-hour drive was Deepak Tal, a small lake where I found myself to be a silent spectator of the pristine waters.
Followed by a tasty feasting at this classic mountain café Pan, we travelled the bumpy roads leading Tanglang La. After a ride from Upshi to Leh, I finally had the first sip of alcohol. For the rest of my journey, the pursuit of adventure had already kept me high.
Best Moment of the Day:
I will forever cherish the touch of first snowflake I encountered at Tanglang La. All the best words in my vocabulary just seem so minuscule describing the ecstasy I felt here.
Day 6: A Spellbinding Day with the Local Sights of Leh
After challenging rides to Leh, this day we ditched the bikes and rode a tempo traveller. The tour involved Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Sangam Point, Hall of Fame and shopping for souvenirs in the local market with a delectable Ladakhi dinner to call it a day.
Best Moment of the Day:
I will treasure my interactions with the friendly locals who made me feel home in this dreamlike destination. To keep such fantastic memories alive, I brought back numerous flags from Leh.

Day 7: Reaching the Land of Two Borders of Three Countries
This day was planned for Nubra Valley but owing to vagaries of weather we were destined to ride to Pangong Lake, the same lake framed by the Indian movie ‘3 Idiots’. The captivating jaunt presented different hues of the sky varying every moment up to the confluence of India, China and Pakistan.
After a precautionary oxygen test, we went camping underneath the blanket of Milky Way Galaxy glittering in the sky.
Best Moment of the Day:
Who doesn’t like breaking the monotony and retreating amid serene nature? Well, that’s Ladakh for you- nature’s handiwork radiating rapturous tranquillity.
Day 8: White Sands, Camels and Friends from Myriad Places
Even though the day began with some hiccups as our backup vehicle met with an accident, it went on to be momentous. We visited the Diskit Monastery and explored the white sands of Humder on a camel safari.
The fun lasted while it could at Humder and afterwards rode to Sumur for camping with booze and smoke ending another fantastic day on my heavenly sojourn in Leh.

Best Moment of the Day:
The highlight of the day was the ride on the double humped Bactrian Camels- an altogether different experience even for a Rajasthani like me.
Day 9: Riding the Highest Road on the Planet
You’re literally on top of the world, as you ride the highest motorable road coming across Khardung La on the way to Nubra Valley. The temperature here drops to the freezing point and I enjoyed the gorgeous vista of the water roaring down the mountain and freezing in a spectacular shape of the heart.
We stopped at Shanti Stupa to revel Buddhist culture and adored a majestic view of Leh here.
Best Moment of the Day:
With icy temperatures and thinnest atmosphere, Ladakh presented the time which will keep motivating me in tough times- to push my boundaries and conquer all the fears.
Day 10: A Captivating End to a Refreshing Sojourn
My eventful trip ended with a bike ride back to Leh where we shared our recollections of individual experiences. I bade my adieu to the wonderful local guides and the picturesque landscape that enthralled me on the most adventurous trip of my life! That evening I took the longest flight of my life because I left my soul in Ladakh. Until next time!
