The Kashmir Valley to The High Passes in Ladakh: Shadab’s Journey of Self-Discovery
Quick Jumplinks to Navigate
“Every man can transform the world from one of monotony and drabness to one of excitement and adventure”
Irving Wallace’s words describe how Shadab took a break from his monotonous life to fulfil his longed dream.
Mumbai-based Shadab Inamdar identifies himself as a strong person who is often lost in his own La La Land. Always on a lookout for new places to explore, Shadab had been seeking his appointment with the Kashmir Valley and the land of High Passes, Ladakh, for long now. Coming across tales and pictures of these beautiful places from his friends and bloggers only strengthened his resolution to explore the state of Jammu and Kashmir and explore cultural nuances of the place.
No Easy Journey
It was not an easy journey for Shadab, who was initially reluctant to travel owing to his body weight. The love for travelling can make you do things, and that is exactly what inspired Shadab to shed a whopping 10 kg and feel confident in his skin. He also credits his wife for being a solid moral support and for accompanying him to his dream bike trip to Ladakh, along with friends.
After all the hard work and efforts, the wait was worth it as he realised that he was finally making it to the majestic land through Throllophilia. However, it was the usual chaos in Mumbai which served as an enigma before he, along with his wife, finally reached the airport to set off for Srinagar. Just when they thought that it was all smooth now, the flight landed in Jammu due to bad weather and stranded the enthusiastic tourists. They now had the option to fly back free of cost, but it was their resilience that pushed them to travel to Kashmir in an overnight cab journey
First Eid Without Family, and He Made it Special
The day started with a soothing Azaan in Srinagar. It was Eid that day, and it made the experience more special for Shadab and Co. as they explored the bustling city of gardens and lakes. By evening, they were introduced to their bikes on which they were scheduled to ride to Ladakh. Shadab and his friends could not wait to get their hands on these machines.
The next morning brought with it unmatchable energy as the group set off for Kargil (204 km). The journey was full of adventure as the mountains greeted the visitors with lush greenery and the streams would often cross their path to bid them hello. The roads leading to Kargil were well-constructed and the surroundings were mesmerizing. It was a long journey in the mountains and a reviving stay during the night was the need of that hour.
Getting Leh’d
The visitors were excited to travel to Leh the next morning. As Shadab describes, the views en route to Leh were so picture-perfect that he could not put his camera away, not for a while! On reaching Leh, Shadab and his friends were humbled by the warm reception given to them by the locals. Being in Leh was a monumental experience as Shadab had long dreamt of visiting the beautiful city of Leh.
It was Day 4 of the journey, and Leh had lots to offer to the visitors. The quaint city saw routine hubbub as Shadab and his fellow travellers went around exploring places, tasting local delicacies and exploring the markets which had a lot of silver ornaments to offer to female visitors.
From Leh, they headed to the picturesque Pangong Tso, which changed its hues according to the sunlight in the backdrop of the mountains. The lake was so perfect that Shadab could not hold himself back from plunging himself into it despite the chilling cold water. The picturesque lake was not just an epitome of beauty; it also offered places to have fun. After clicking pictures at the “3 Idiots” chair and scooter, everyone had an amazing time camping opposite the Lake.

Fun in The Cold Deserts
The next morning, Shadab and Co. headed to the Nubra Valley. The journey enchanted Shadab as the dramatic change of surroundings was an unforgettable phenomenon. From snow-clad peaks and freezing-cold lakes, they entered the cold desert of Hunder. Everyone got dressed in local attires and clicked pictures. They also saw the double-humped camels in this desert. The night stay at Hunder was an amazing experience as the camps pitched in the desert laid the perfect foundation for night-long talks and fun with friends.
The journey from Nubra Valley to Leh kept the riders hooked as the surroundings changed at frequent intervals. It was a blissful sojourn that Shadab was now experiencing. There was no weariness despite long travel schedules. Being in the lap of nature was truly a tranquil experience — a much-needed one for someone who hails from the ever-busy city of Mumbai.
From Leh, they set off to travel to Sarchu the next morning. The weather next day on the way to Sarchu had started getting cold. Nestled in tents in Sarchu after covering a distance of 255 km, Shadab and his friends witnessed snowfall in the region, which was an unusually cold yet delightful experience.

Waking up to clouds surrounding the tents the next morning was a rejuvenating experience for Shadab and his wife. They began their ride towards Jispa. The road to Jispa was in excellent condition, and it allowed Shadab to use his bike’s power as the machine roared in the mountains. The road ahead, to Manali, was smooth and enthralled the visitors as they rode through the popular Rohtang Pass. A stay in Manali ensured that they had enough time to explore the local markets, buy handicrafts and try local delicacies.
The journey ended with Shadab and fellow travellers leaving for Delhi from Manali by bus. The adventurous person in Shadab now plans to go the Chadar Trek, which is the ultimate goal of every adventure enthusiast in India.
