Seema’s First Leh Experience- Nothing Like She Had Imagined!
Quick Jumplinks to Navigate
When boredom hits you hard, you wait for the weekend to swing you with its groove. That’s why Monday blues drag you down and the boredom graph only escalates with you waiting for yet another weekend where you can enjoy in the bar, chill with your friends and chat. The cycle never ends, does it?
But what if you take another turn and instead of being stuck in the vicious circle, you step out of the mundane and change your life for the next 10 days? How is your life going to be different? Seema says, “The 12-day trip that I took gave me so many memories that it has been a year and I am still talking about the trip as if I took it just last week.”
The First Step
This is the story of Seema Gattani, working in Hyderabad who decided to book a tour with Thrillophilia last summer and within a month’s notice and arrangements, hopped on a plane and reached to the north of India for the ultimate Manali to Leh tour. “Leh is almost everyone’s favorite destination, irrespective of who you are and where you are from. The natural beauty of the place, the high rise mountains, pristine lakes, cold climate and starry skies make Leh one of the most sought-after destinations of the country. You can call me an enthu cutlet since I decided to explore the highest passes, adventurous roads and icy cold climate as I couldn’t stop talking about it to my friends and family. I was going solo and I couldn’t be happier!”

The trip finally started when I departed from Delhi to beautiful Manali and I knew that the adventure had started. With other co-travellers as adventurous as me, I visited the Solang Valley and experienced paragliding and quad biking. I was always fascinated to see natural hot springs that I finally saw at the Vashisht Temple. Of course, I had to take back souvenirs and so I shopped in the market in the evening and I was jumping with joy and excitement for the next days that I will be spending in Leh.

The Coming Days
The next two days were spent in exploring the valleys between Manali to Leh. Seema started from Manali via a bus and passed through Gulaba, Marhi, Khoksar and the untouched Lahaul Valley. “The view was spectacular. I couldn’t believe that there could be so much beauty in India where we keep looking at photos from outside the country not realizing that there is abundant of beauty here. By the evening, we all reached Jispa and had dinner under the starry sky in the night.”

Day: All The Way to Leh
From Jispa, Seema crossed spectacular places including Darcha, Bara-lacha La and Zing Zing Bar and reached Sarchu. “I was only one step away from Leh and I could feel my heart pounding against my chest as I slept that night in Sarchu knowing that tomorrow will be the day I will finally touch the grounds of Leh.”
After breakfast, the trip started towards the land of high passes-Leh and I could see the landscape change dramatically. We stopped at Nakee La, Lachung La and Gata loops and took the best pictures. Believe me, the photographs do no justice to what my eyes saw! After crossing Pang and Rumtse, I finally arrived in Leh in the evening and needless to say, “I was the happiest and the most excited among the group of travellers!”

Day: Time for Excursion
In the breakfast, Seema headed to the famous Sham Valley which had various spots to cover such as the Ladakh Hall of Fame, famous Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and the delightful confluence of the Indus river and its tributary, Zanskar. “I did river rafting for the first time and at first, I was scared looking at the rapids but gradually, the water started to show its mercy on me and I enjoyed every bit of it!”

“I moved towards the Magnetic Hills and actually got to witness the magic of the hills which attract vehicles towards them. Sure, there is science behind it but keeping that fact aside, it was so exciting to see vehicles moving on their own even on neutral gear!”
Day: Dunes of Nubra
On the 7th day, Seema and her co-travellers drove through the world’s highest motorable pass, Khardung La and reached the Diskit Monastery for an unending view of the Nubra Valley. Seema took the opportunity to take a double-humped camel ride in the midst of the white sands of the Nubra Valley overlooking the nude mountains. As the day set, the stars came out and Seema sat with fellow travellers around a bonfire and discussed various travel stories while the dark sky watched these hippie souls.
Day: Dip in Blue
“The next day, the tour leader took all of us towards the most anticipated spot: the Pangong Tso Lake. We drove along the Shyok river and rested at the camps set up just next to the lake. If I had a chance to stay at one place forever, I would stay here next to Pangong Tso Lake because of the ethereal beauty, pristine blue water and gigantic mountains that surrounded it! I rested my feet in the lake as the water was too cold for me to jump in it. In the night, the moon shone brightly in the water and I knew at that moment, that I was the luckiest person to be here at the right place, at the right time!”
Day: Upshi and Jispa
During the last days of the trip, Seema along with her co-travellers experienced the beauty of Upshi and along the way, stopped at the highest cafes on the Chang La top. From Upshi, she travelled to Jispa and from the mountains, she slowly got to see the plains of Pang. After an overnight stay in the camps arranged by the company, Seema got back to Manali giving an end to the epic solo journey of her life.
How was it?
“If I had to revisit, I will do that without a doubt. I enjoyed every bit of the tour and the team took great care of our comfort, convenience, safety and leisure. We covered all the key attractions on our way and everything from hotel, food and quality was amazing. The drivers were really friendly, operators were courteous who made this journey worth remembering. I couldn’t have asked for more. It was a lifetime trip for me!!”
“After coming back from the trip, I can remember everything so neatly. The weather, people, hospitality and simplicity just took my heart away! The peace and divinity of Leh stands unparalleled!!”
