About The Resort
The Old Kent Coffee Estate is a dream come true for coffee and heritage lovers alike. The estate is one of the oldest coffee estates in India that still stands as a preserved property and a proof of the beauty and glory of British India.
The walls of this resort tell stories of an old British Colonel who spent the majority of his life in this beautiful house. It was around the mid-1800s when Lieutenant Colonel W.R. Wright, an army officer in British India developed this property from a jungle to a stunning coffee estate. His taste for the stunning designs, vintage interiors and most importantly, an eye for detail of each coffee plant that grew, made this property what it is today.
If you’re one for the vintage vibes, love coffee more than anything else, there surely is no better way to #RediscoverParadise than to book a weekend getaway at this resort!
In-House Grown Coffee
The coffee estates at Old Kent is spread across 200 acres of land. As a guest, you will get to taste their carefully plucked, world-class coffee which is otherwise exported to an Italian Roaster. Grown under a canopy of two-tier of rosewood, silver oaks and cluster-fig trees, their Arabica and Robusta coffee plants give out coffee that is next to none in quality. The estate also grows exotic spices in the same land like Pepper and Cardamom along with coffee- all in an environmentally friendly manner, leaving the surrounding biodiversity undisturbed.
Guests at the resort also get the opportunity to spend a day in the life of a planter. The session involves taking the guests from “Crop to Cup” and explaining the entire journey of coffee from roasting to cupping.
Resort’s Indo-British Heritage
Built in 1864, the Old Kent Estate is a colonial bungalow situated at a vantage point serving stunning views of the surrounding forests and plantations of Coorg. The resort houses luxury cottages, a private dining room, a home theatre, a kids’ play area and a library that has been preserved from the colonial times much in its original state. As you walk in the premises of this property, you will be able to see stories unfold from the times of the British rule.
W.R. Wright, the British Colonel who developed this property lived here with his family. He was also known to be a great writer and poet and thus had a beautifully designed library in the house. Now popular with guests visiting the resort, the library has been preserved and enhanced for its interiors, furniture and an old fireplace.
