The COVID-19 pandemic has added tons of restrictions, requirements and rules to travel to all Indian states. Ladakh, one of the most popular holiday destinations for mountain lovers across the world is no exception. To keep the spread of the COVID-19 virus at bay, the government of Ladakh has introduced various entry requirements and guidelines to be followed by all visitors. If you’re planning to travel to this heavenly state, read ahead to know about the entry requirements, resumed destinations and more.
How To Reach Ladakh
By road: The Manali Leh and Srinagar Leh highway usually closes every year at the end of October due to heavy snowfall and reopens by the month of March. Currently, the highways stand closed. There are no HPTDC or private buses running from Manali to Leh currently. (Updated: 10/10/2020)
By air: Flights are currently functional from Delhi to Leh Airport.
Prerequisites:
- A COVID negative certificate from an ICMR certified lab not older than 72 hours of arrival for a 7-day trip.
- A COVID negative certificate to be obtained on the 8th day of stay.
- A pre-booked stay at a hotel/guesthouse in Leh is mandatory for entry.

State Rules
- Travellers have to carry a COVID negative certificate from an ICMR certified lab, no older than 72 hours to travel freely for 7 days in Ladakh. If a COVID negative certificate is not presented at the airport or road checkpoint, the traveller will be tested and advised a 7-day quarantine.
- If the trip is longer than 7 days, then the traveller will be required to take another test on the 8th day.
- A pre-booked stay at a hotel/guesthouse in Leh is mandatory.
- Nubra valley is open for Inner Line Permit.
- Pangong and Tsomoriri Lakes are closed for tourists.
- Taxis and cars can only have 1 +2 seating as per the SOP of the MHA.
- Tempos can only have 1+7 tourists seated as per the SOP of the MHA.
- If the traveller crosses districts, separate testing and quarantine rules will apply according to the district.
- Wearing masks and adhering to social distancing is mandatory at all public spaces.

All tourists attractions and destinations around Ladakh are open for tourists except:
- Pangong Lake
- Tso Moriri
- Chanthang

Permit Requirements In Ladakh
The following destinations in Ladakh need a permit to enter:
- Nubra Valley
- Khardungla
- Pangong and Tso Moriri (Entry not allowed for leisure travel for now)
All permits can be easily obtained online from the official website of Leh District Permit Tracking System.
