Windlab Indoor Skydiving Overview

Indoor skydiving at Windlab gives a similar experience like a real outdoor skydive jump from 14,000 feet. The sport/leisure activity is all the rage right now, and anyone who has ever wanted to feel what it's like to soar can do so at 1 Utama, the 7th largest mall in the world. Flyers enter the round, all-glass wind tunnel, where they are lifted into the air by the tunnel's turbulence and then guided to a controlled landing by our world-class instructors.

The WINDLAB Indoor Skydiving is a simulation of a 14,000-foot outdoor skydive. In Asia, it is the most popular kind of extreme recreation. Kuala Lumpur is home to Malaysia’s first indoor skydiving facility. Anyone who has ever wanted to fly may now do so at 1 Utama, one of the largest malls in the world. A certified instructor can easily reach the flyer inside the 12-foot-diameter, 32-foot-high flight chamber of the circular wind tunnel, which is enclosed by glass on all sides. With wind speeds of up to 250 km/h and a trampoline bottom made of aircraft-quality stainless steel, active flyers may perform aerobatic manoeuvres in a safe and controlled environment. There is a free gallery and seating area where spectators can watch the action.

The vertical wind tunnel is the core piece of technology of WINDLAB Indoor Skydiving (VWT). An enclosed area (a flight chamber) is equipped with a wind tunnel to generate a buoyant air cushion. WINDLAB uses state-of-the-art wind tunnels that generate a safe, steady, wall-to-wall airflow that renders it impossible to tumble out of the air column. When you reach the end of the tunnel and enter the flight chamber, you will be able to take off and glide through the air. The flight chamber features a stainless steel trampoline floor. You and your teacher will enter the flying room, where the wind speed will be gradually increased until you are airborne. The flight chamber at WINDLAB Kuala Lumpur is 12 feet in diameter and 10 metres in height.

Tips to visit

  • Indoor skydiving is becoming increasingly popular, meaning that some sessions often fill up quickly. This is why it is highly recommended that you book your flight in advance.
  • Always take a deep breath before entering the wind tunnel. There is a lot of air moving about you, so keep your mouth open.
  • Put on a pair of running shoes or lace-up sneakers that fits you perfectly. Other than the ones specifically stated, no other footwear is safe for skydiving.
  • Dress in a relaxed manner, especially in a collarless shirt and jeans.
  • Tie up your hair in a low bun or braid if it’s more than shoulder-length
  • Take away anything that can move around or comes loose. Jewelry such as headbands, watches, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings fall within this category. Take out everything you have in your pockets.
  • Feel free to eat before your flight time. If you try indoor skydiving on an empty stomach, you can get sick to your stomach, feel like your stomach is dropping, and have a case of the nauseous shakes.
  • Since the wind tunnel is so noisy, pay close attention to your flight instructor's hand gestures.
  • When your teacher flashes you the peace sign, you should spread your legs apart; when they give you the thumbs up, you should stare straight ahead; and when they give you the "hang loose" gesture, you should loosen up and let the wind do its thing.

This is an experience worth remembering for me, as it is here that I got to experience skydiving indoors, during my solo trip. I didn’t even have to jump from an actual plane here. This indoor skydiving experience was very thrilling, and I would recommend everyone to try it at least once.
