SALON DE LOS EMBAJADORES GRANADA

The magnificent Salón de Los Embajadores, located in the Palacio de Comares, was once the grand reception hall for the Kings and Queens of Spain. This incredible room, with its high ceilings and ornate decoration, is one of the most impressive examples of Moorish architecture in Spain.

The history of the Salón de Los Embajadores is as fascinating as the room itself. It was the representational center of Nasrid's power and that is unveiled in the elegance and grandeur of the room's embellishment. The hall is entirely covered by decorative inscriptions: niches, hooks, walls, and dressing rooms, are all surrounded by poems.

Some of the most expensive materials that can be witnessed in the Hall of the Ambassadors are cedar wood and lapis lazuli. Cedarwood overpowers the dome of the hall, where 8000 small cedar wood pieces create a soothing mosaic.

Lapis lazuli was imported from grounds that today lie in Afghanistan. It was identical in price to gold because it could be ground into an exceptionally blue powder which was utilized as a colorant for painting. Today, you can still catch a glimpse of the vivid blue lapis lazuli paint on the ceiling within Yusuf’s palace. 

The Salón de Los Embajadores is built in the Nasrid style of Islamic architecture and its most distinguishing feature is its octagonal shape, which is incredibly rare in Moorish architecture. The room is also notable for its intricate stucco work, marble floors, and intricate wood carvings. Visitors can tour the hall and see its beautiful paintings, sculptures, and tapestries.
