The Royal Chapel Of St. Anthony Of La Florida is one of the top places to visit in Madrid, known for its stunning dome created by artist Francisco Goya. The chapel was built on the location of two previously built chapels in the 1730s on a land called La Florida. This is also the final resting place of the world-famous artist Goya who is buried in this chapel.
The Royal Chapel Of St. Anthony Of La Florida was built by the orders of King Carlos IV and the construction took place from 1792 to 1798. The royal chapel was declared a national museum in 1905. Francisco de Fontana built the chapel using a Greek cross-ground plan, a semicircular apse from the top that allowed him to build the dome of the building. It is in rectangular shape and you can witness the beautiful main facade which is influenced by the Baroque canon. In the year 1928, an identical chapel was built next to this one to convert the original chapel into a museum. It was created to be dedicated to the famous artist Goya. The dome of the chapel was decorated by Goya with frescos which represent the trance of the saint before the people of the city.
