Notre Dame de La Santé Overview

Notre Dame de La Santé is a tiny chapel that was constructed from the legacy money of Jean de Saix in 1527, serving as a hospital for people suffering from the plague. Regarded as the faithful guard in the strategic location, it is a retreat to the eyes of history buffs. The chapel is beautifully enveloped by lierne and trefoil on intriguing columns that are devoid of capital.

Located on the extremities of the Pont Vieux de Carcassonne at the entrance of the rue des Trois-Couronnes, Notre Dame de La Santé is a tiny aedicula near the former hospital. Since the middle of the 15th century, it served as a place for the faithful people to visit and pray for the healing of their loved ones. In the year 1527, Jean Saix donated 4000 pounds for the expansion of a hospital for people who are suffering from the plague.

The Notre Dame de La Santé attracts innumerable tourists and locals from the town on the occasion of the Marian feasts, which is also known as the feast of the Annunciation.
