Chapelle des Dominicaines Overview

Chapelle des Dominicaines is an ancient chapel turned antique store that features a neo-Gothic architectural style. Constructed during the Second Empire around 1860, this institution was devoted to the education of young girls until its dissolution at the start of the 20th century. It later transformed into a cultural center that presents exhibitions on different themes.

Chapelle des Dominicaines is formerly a chapel constructed in a neo-Gothic architectural style during the Second Empire around 1860. It was commissioned to be constructed by the congregation of the Dominican sisters that stand as part of the buildings of the Auberge du Lion d’or. This chapel was dedicated to the education of young girls until it was dissolved at the start of the 20th century. Later, in 1913, the Chapelle des Dominicaines became an antique store, where the dance school was organized in the nave of the chapel until 1979.

The Chapelle des Dominicaines was then transformed into a gorgeous museum that is renowned for its marvelous architecture. This museum now showcases exhibitions on a diverse range of themes. The vibrant glass windows, engravings, decorations, and plenty of other drawings on the wall also garner the interest of tourists. From drawing to sculpture and photography, you will find innumerable art displays in the museum that are realistic, surreal, expressive, symbolic, and impressionistic.
