Munkholmen, which happens to be one of the best places to visit in Trondheim Norway is just located at a distance of 1 km from the city centre. You can visit this place on a shuttle boat from Ravnkloa and you will be welcomed by the preserved round tower which belongs to the former Benedictine abbey of Nidarholm, founded in the 12th century.
Munkholmen at the present time is occupied by a fort built in the year 1658 and some more German fortifications of World War II era. This place was also used as an anti aircraft gun station during the time of war.
