John Hancock Observatory Overview

The John Hancock Observatory, built and designed by structural engineer Fazlur Khan and architect Bruce Graham, is the first mixed-use tower in the world. The John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co., a former tenant, inspired the naming of this structure. This building, which was finished in 1970, houses apartments for people to live in, as well as shops, offices, dining establishments, bars, parking, and observation points.
