About Gendarmenmarkt

The Gendarmenmarkt is probably the biggest square in Berlin. It is overwhelmed by three notable distinctive structures: the Konzerthaus, the French Cathedral (Französischer Dom), and the German Cathedral (Deutscher Dom). This delightful seventeenth century square is currently one of the top tourist places in Berlin. Every year in the late spring, it facilitates various public occasions remembering old style shows in the Konzerthaus theater.

Every December Gendarmenmarkt turns into the city's popular Christmas Market. At the very centre of the square of this place, there is a monumental statue of the great poet Friedrich Schiller. Several of these buildings were badly destroyed in World War II, after which they were reconstructed.
