It is renowned for its Gothic interiors and breathtaking architecture. The chapel is a popular pilgrimage site that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area. You'll have to climb up the hill to reach Ermita de San Miguel Alto.
Located close to the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liebana, Ermita de San Miguel Alto is one of the most famous religious sites in Granada. It overlooks Alhambra and Granada and has been reformed several times over the years. Ermita de San Miguel Alto was built between 1815 and 1828 in a neoclassical style to honor the Archangel Michael, an angel in Judaism, Islam, Christianity, and the Baha'i faith.
The main chapel of the church was installed during the eighteenth century. The lower floor has a raised lintel doorway that gives you access to the church. The upper floor is centered by a balcony, and on the sides, there are two large windows. Inside the church, you'll find the beautiful image of Archangel Saint Michael.
The church has various carvings and canvases, including those of the Virgen de la Caridad and Virgen del Carmen attributed to Diego de Mora. According to popular belief, the church was built to stop the continuous floods which destroyed nearby churches and houses on several occasions. On September 29 every year, many people come to the church to participate in the procession pilgrimage that takes place through the neighborhood streets.
