According to local legends, the waterfall is called Thlen Falls because of a snake called Thlen. Villagers killed the snake to keep everyone safe. They captured the Thlen and killed it on the wide flat rock overlooking the waterfall. The rocks still have scars from the battle and natural rock carvings describe the episode from the same.

How To Reach

Dainthlen Falls is located 11 km from the city of Cherrapunji in the village of Sohra. It is a 30 to 40 minute drive from Cherrapunji.

By Car/Taxi: The most convenient way to reach Dainthlen Falls from Cherrapunji is by hiring a taxi or renting a car. The falls are about 15-20 kilometres away from Cherrapunji, and the journey takes around 30-45 minutes depending on road conditions.

By Bus: Another option is to take a public bus from Cherrapunji to Sohra Market, which is the nearest town to Dainthlen Falls. From Sohra Market, you can hire a taxi or take a shared jeep to reach the falls. Buses usually ply on this route, but their frequency might be limited, so it's advisable to check the schedule beforehand.

The majestic Dainthlen Falls are open from 6 am to 5 pm throughout the year.

Best Season to Visit: In the rainy season (June to September) the charm of the waterfall is at its peak. With abundant rain, the waterfall is just magical and is gushing down with immense force. So, it is the best time to visit Dainthlen Falls. However, if you wish to avoid the rainy season, then the months right after the rainy season are the best (October and November).

Best Day of the Week: The Dainthlen Falls are open all days of the week and the best day to visit the place is weekends. It is livelier and bustling with tourists, and the experience is pretty amazing.
