CAIXA FORUM BARCELONA

CaixaForum is a social, artistic, and educational centre located at the foot of Montjuc. Once home to the Casaramona textile mill, the building it now inhabits was created by modernist architect Josep Puig I Cadafalch. CaixaForum Barcelona has been around for over 15 years, and throughout that time it has hosted numerous temporary exhibitions featuring the works of famous artists from both the past and present. Today, cultural events and exhibitions can be found at CaixaForum.

Arata Isozaki, a Japanese architect, oversaw the restoration of the old building that now houses the Caixaforum Barcelona, a cultural centre in Barcelona. The Caixaforum, at the base of Montjuic Hill, is not only one of Barcelona's most visited cultural hubs, but also a model of how old and new buildings may be harmoniously fused. The Obra Social La Caixa, which now oversees seven other comparable facilities in Spain, supported a massive reconstruction project that was finally finished in 2002, based on a design by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki. Caixaforum Barcelona's new location, the Fábrica Casaramona, was formerly an unorthodox factory.

The ancient building complex, finished in 1911, was an instant classic due to its innovative fusion of the ornate style of the Modernisme movement and the function of an industrial factory for the manufacture of textiles. Being one of the most happening cultural places in Barcelona, the Caixaforum has four separate areas for exhibitions related to several forms of art and also has two permanent galleries of which one is dedicated to interactive learning and the other one is dedicated to the history of Fabrica Casamona building.
