About Alexanderplatz

Also called Alex, Alexanderplatz is one of the liveliest squares in the country which was named after Tsar Alexander I. The central market hall was constructed in 1886 and the most popular Tietz department store was built in 1991. One of the major reasons the square became very popular was Alfred Döblin’s 1929 novel Berlin Alexanderplatz.

The square was also one of the popular shooting locations as many scenes were shot for movies like The Bourne Supremacy and Babylon Berlin. The square is also the starting point for many sightseeing tours as it is closer to many other Berlin tourist attractions.
