Tsomoriri To Kibber Trek Overview

This trek takes around 9 days. The best time to do this trek is from Mid August to End of September. The highest point in this trek is Parang La. The highlight of this trip is Monks, monasteries, people and villages. In the entire trip we interact with several locals, enjoy the local food and enjoy the natural landscapes.

During the first day we drive to tsomoriri lake via Chumathang. From there we walk to Korzok that almost feels like walking on the beach. The path is rocky and sandy since morning. Spotting of wild asses are pretty strong in this area.

The next stop from Kyangdam is Skitpodangsa, We trek through Chumik Sharte and then reach Parangchu. The next stop from here is Getpabazuk. It takes 5-6 hours to cross the river. From here we next to move to Tarangyokma. Our next stop is Kharsagongma and from there we trek to Parang la base. The entire thing takes 3-4 hours.

The next stop is Takkarzong via Parang La. We traverse to an awesome natural surroundings, through glaciers, walk southeast for 3 hours and arrive at the destination. The next day reach Thangltak and from there we arrive at Kibber.

Day 01: Leh to Tsomoriri Lake 6 Hrs

After breakfast drives to Tsomoriri via Chumathang. Overnight in Camp.

Day 02: Korzok to Kyangdam (4595m) 5 hrs.

This day you will walk from Korzok to another end of the Lake with a few ups and downs. Overall it is totally different walking day with a similar experience of walking on the beach. The difference of walking here is the narrow tails mostly rocky and sand sometimes. There are maximum chances of spotting wild ass in this area. The Camping site is just at the end of the Lake, before the river. There is no toilet facility.

Day 03: Kyangdam to Skitpodangsa (4563m) or Nurboo Sumdo (4-5 hrs).

This day is again an easy walking on the flat ground to Nurboo Sumdo. You will have to wet your feet as soon as you leave camp. Pass through spring (Chumik Sharte) and the campsite is a deep ground near the river and spring. You can also camp at Skitpodangsa on the another side of the Parangchu but water level can be high in the afternoon if you are trekk-ing in the month of early August or July.

Day 04: Skitpodangsa or Nurbo Sumdo to Getpabuzak (4600m) 5-6 hrs.

If you camp at Nurboo Sumdo dont forget to carry sandal with you for water crossing. The river is full of small pebbles, which hurts your feet without sandal. After crossing the river you will walk towards south for the next few days. Gradually you walk along the river. Camping site is just after small ups and down.

Day 05: Getpabuzak to Tarangyokma (4731m) 4-5 hrs.

This day is again straightforward walking along the river with on the rolling plateau before the Valley widens. Keep walking in the same direction along the river and the campsite is near the river with a small spring. It is a nice camping area but there are no toilet facilities.

Day 06: Tarangyokma to Kharsagongma (4900m) or Parang la base (Bubnen) (5089m) 3-4 hrs.

Today again you will remain in the same valley and ascend of the Parangla starts from Kharsagongma. If you are in big group its ideal to camp at Kharsagongma as there is space for only a few tents. Otherwise, continue walking to the base Camp of Parangla Pass.

Day 07: Kharsagongma to Takkarzong (4850m) via Parang La (5588m)

Cross the river immediate after leaving the Camp. Take the trail from your left hand side and the right side of the glacier. As you walk upwards, craves become very narrow from where you can cross the glacier. Start walking towards southeast and after around 3 hours walking you can see colourful prayer flags flapping at the top of the Pass. Take the steep descent to the campsite near huge rock and the waterfalls from it. But in end of September and October water dries up, therefore you have to carry water from the Parang base.

Day 08: Takkarzong to Thangltak (4500m) 4-5 hrs.

Its vertical walking down to the Parangchu and remains walking at the same level along the Paranghu to the east for sometimes before you take another exhausting Climb to Thangltak. Thangltak has very nice campsite with a wonderful view of the mountains and spring water. Kibber is just another 3 hours walk from here.

Day 09: Thangltak to Kibber 3 hrs.

Take the straight trail towards east with gentle ascend. From the highest point you will walk steep down to bridge with a few zigzag trails. Cross the bridge and reach Kibber village. Overnight in Guesthouse in Kibber.
