Neelakurinji Trek Overview

Location: Neelakurinji, Munnar
Timing: 3 hours (Open from 8 AM to 5 PM)

Startpoint: Near Pothamedu
End-Point:  Near Pothamedu

Strobilanthes Kunthianus, fondly known by the name of Neelakurinji is the shrub that gives the Nilgiri hills (Blue mountains) their name from the purplish-blue flowers of Neelakurinji. Enveloping the Western Ghats in blue, Neelakurinji blooms once in 12-years, making it an impeccable spectacle. 

Trek to top of the mountain as it is best enjoyed on the Mountaintops from where we get panoramic views of these Kurinji flowers stretching far off the lands and forming a picturesque purple carpet. This exclusive Neelakurinji Trekking trail allows you to enjoy an unparalleled view of pure natural beauty when the whole land of Munnar wears a purple outfit. It is a sight to behold.

How to reach Neelakurinji Trek Starting Point:  
Nearest Railway Station and Airport is Kochi. From Kochi, Munnar is around 130 km away. One can hire a cab and reach Munnar. Neelakurinji trek, near Pothamedu, is around 2.5 Km from Munnar bus stand.

    Discovering the unseen views always feels special to me so i just loved my trekking expedition of Munnar hills. Its rich in flaura and fauna, i saw the beautiful flower called Neelakurinji which is hardly seen.As the guide told us this flower will again bloom in 2018.

    There is some magic in the hills of Munnar, that caught our attention, trull the place is the best holiday destination for all. When we were entering Munnar we saw endless gardens of coffee and it was so nice to stare at those feilds.... Wao Munnar hills has very rich vegetation area as well. We were trekking on the moderate trails and camping on flat grounds.. everything just commendable.

    The spectacular views are quite enogh to steal your heart... Definately Munnar is the favourite hotspot of trekkers and other tourists...While trekking we also reached Mattupetty hills and then discovered beautiful the tea plantations. It was a very leasing feelig for us.

    My three days trip to munnar hills is unforgettable....It was my first trekking expedition ever and i completed it with so ease and comfort ... And all thanks goes to our tour guide who were very experienced trainers... Apart from that camping moments were also very sweet for me.

    The place is majestic, the walked was easy and all the way it was full of beautiful sceneries of the flowers, mountains and lush greenery.     Trekking in munnar was my dream and last summer my dream came true after the amazing visit to Munnar....I loved it ... The scenic beauty of the place lies in the magnificient hills , though terrain, the gorgeous periyar river and a national park also that comes in the mid way. Overall It was a very memorable experience guys.....
