  • Explore Myanmar, from the bustling streets of Yangon to the sacred Golden Rock in Kyaikhtiyo and the ancient wonders of Bago’s royal past.

  • Stand before the Shwedagon Pagoda, said to enshrine relics of four ancient Buddhas, including Gautama Buddha, making it Myanmar’s most sacred stupa.

  • Visit Kyaikhtiyo’s Golden Rock, a gravity-defying boulder covered in gold leaf, balancing on the edge of a cliff, believed to be held in place by Buddha’s hair.

  • Discover Shwemawdaw Paya, the tallest pagoda in Myanmar, standing for over 1,000 years, where pilgrims gather to pay homage to sacred relics of Buddha.

  • Pay tribute at Taukkyan War Cemetery, a peaceful memorial with thousands of Allied soldiers’ graves from World War II.

Know Before You Go

  • The official currency is the Myanmar Kyat (MMK). Cash is preferred in most places, so carry enough local currency, especially in remote areas.
  • Wi-Fi is limited in rural areas. Purchase a local SIM card (Telenor, Ooredoo, or MPT) for better connectivity.
  • When visiting temples and pagodas, wear clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Shoes must be removed before entering sacred sites.
  • Myanmar has a tropical climate. Carry lightweight clothing, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and a raincoat if traveling during monsoon season.
  • Greet locals with a smile and avoid touching people on the head. Use both hands when giving or receiving items as a sign of respect.
  • Myanmar uses Type C, D, F, and G power sockets. A universal adapter is recommended. Power cuts can occur, so carry a power bank.
  • Do not point your feet towards Buddha statues or monks. Silence your phone and avoid loud conversations inside religious sites.
  • Myanmar follows Myanmar Time (MMT), which is UTC +6:30.
  • Public displays of affection are uncommon. Avoid discussing politics or sensitive topics in public.
  • ATMs are available in major cities but may not work with all foreign cards. Carry sufficient cash for smaller towns.
