Brandy Nalla To Hemis Trek Overview
The duration of trek from Brandy Nalla to Hemis is about 13 days. The best time to do this trek is from mid June to End of September. The journey begins at Manali where we drive through Sarchu. We cross the Baralacha Pass and camp at Brandy Nalla, the start of this trek. The next place we trek to is Jukta, a short leisure trek which will help us in acclimatizing.
From Jukta we move to Morang la, the highest point in the trek. The trek is moderate. We follow the Bans river and arrive at the camping base. From Morang La base we take a steep climb and reach Morang La (5300 ft). The trek from here onwards is an easy down hill climb until the Lun valley. From Lun we trek to Lungmo Che at 4000 mt. En route this place it is likely to encounter nomadic groups.
From Lungmo Che we go to Yar La and from there we arrive at Dat. Sorra is the next stop. On the way we will visit the Gelukpa monastery at Dat village. A short trek from here and we arrive at the mid camp called Zalung Karpo La. The next morning we leave for Langtan Chu. The trek takes 7-8 hours. Next day again start the trek to Nimaling. To reach there we cross two ridges. Spend an entire day lazing around in Nimaling. From Nimaling we will go to Kangmarula and then to Chogdo.
Next day trek until we reach Shang and then drive to Hemis monastery. After visitng Hemis, drive to Leh and return back home.
Day 1:
The first day will be packed with full of fun and excitement from Manali via Sarchu and Brandy Nala which is again via Baralacha La. Then you can trek ahead and settle at Brandy Nala.This will be the beginning of an exciting journey.
Day 2:
Your day would start with a short trekking route from Brandy nala to Jukta towards the Ligit plain.Spend the rest of the day leisurely and stay in the camp in the night.
Day 3:
This is a one hour easy trek from Jukta to Morangla which would follow the river Bans and you would ultimately reach the Morang la pass, set a tent and stay there for the night.
Day 4:
Morang La base to Morang La - Lun is a sharp climb. After resting for some time, start climbing downhill on the other part. In the beginning the trek would be a little strenuous but after some time it would lead to a broad plateau. There are places where you can stay overnight.
Day 5:
In the part from Lun to Lungmo Che trek you would follow the river and on the way a village named Sangh would fall on the way where you may also meet some tribal.
Day 6:
This Lungmo Che - Yar-La - Dat is an adventurous climb but smooth and it also offers an eye striking view of the Rupsu plains.Dat is a village where you can stay overnight.
Day 7:
In the morning visit Dat - Sorra which is a tiny Gelukpa monastery. After taking some rest move to Sorra Begin the trek by crossing through a tiny river known as Dat Chu.After crossing Sorra Chu, you would cross a dense forest where you can set up a camp.
Day 8:
Start the morning by climbing for one hour. This is a great place as you can view the beauty of the Zalung Karpo La. There are lots of places where you can stay overnight.
Day 9:
Mid camp to Langtang Chu is a pretty long trek through the valleys. One also crosses a number of streams on the way.
Day 10:
From Langtau Chu to Nimling one crosses two sharp ridges. After taking rest one can cross the Konka Wangpo pass and climb down from the next side.
Day 11:
Spend the day leisurely exploring all the virgin areas of Nimaling. Nimaling is known as the base site for mountaineering in Kang-Yatse Mountain.
Day 12:
From Nimaling to Kangmarula via Chogdo you would begin your climb in the morning.Rest for a while and then try climbing down from the other side before you would enter a valley and a very narrow gorge.
This valley would open at Churkimo. Travel to Chogdo and build camp near for staying overnight.
Day 13:
The best part of the trek is from Chogdo to Sumdo via Shang “ Leh, Hemis - Trek. Its a good drive to Hemis Monastery. It is one of the most noteworthy constructins which is worth visiting. Drive to leh after visiting the monastery.
