Know Before You Go

  • For Botswana, Namibia, and Zimbabwe, U.S. citizens do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days for tourism purposes. However, your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date.
  • Make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines like hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, and yellow fever (if traveling from a high-risk area).
  • Always stay at a safe distance from wild animals. This applies to both game drives and any encounters with wildlife.
  • When on safari, remain inside the vehicle at all times unless directed by a guide to exit in designated areas.
  • Feeding wildlife can disrupt their natural behavior, so avoid feeding animals, whether in the wild or in national parks.
  • Always dispose of trash responsibly and avoid leaving any waste behind. Many lodges and camps operate with strict sustainability policies.
  • Always ask for permission before photographing people, particularly in rural areas or during cultural ceremonies. In some regions, photography of sacred sites or local ceremonies may be restricted.
  • The standard voltage in these countries is 220-240V, and the plug type is typically Type M or Type C. Bring appropriate adapters if your devices use different plugs.
