Bihar Sharif, the headquarters of Nalanda district in Bihar gets its name from the two words, Vihara, the monasteries of Buddhists and Sharif, the resting place of the Sufi Saint, Makhdoom Sharfuddin Ahmed Yahya Maneri. One can visit the tomb of Ibrahim Mallick Baya at Badi Pahadi in Bihar Sharif and then proceed to see the Nalanda university and Hieun Tsang memorial at Nalanda.

Badi PahadiBadi Pahadi is also known as Hiranya Parvat has a rich history. It is said that Buddha spent his last monsoon in the vicinity of this hill. After his death, a monastery called the "Kapotica" or Pigeon Monastery was built thereon. Xuan Zang visited the monastery and mentioned it.
Ruins of Nalanda University
Nalanda was an ancient Mahavihara, a revered Buddhist monastery which also served as a renowned centre of learning, in the ancient kingdom of Magadha in India.
Hieun Tsang Memorial A memorial has been built and named after the Chinese traveller and scholar-monk, Xuanzang, who was a student at Nalanda and subsequently became a teacher at the ancient Nalanda Mahavihara
'Silao ka khaja' at Silao
Taste the famous sweet that consists of twelve to sixteen very thin dough-sheets placed over one another. The light yellow colour sweet has wheat-flour, sugar, maida, ghee, cardamom and aniseeds as ingredients.
