Know Before You Go

  • Citizens should be up-to-date on routine vaccinations, and additional vaccinations such as Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, Yellow Fever (if coming from a yellow fever-endemic country), and Malaria prophylaxis are strongly recommended.
  • Wear long sleeves and pants at dawn and dusk, and use insect repellent. Take malaria prophylaxis as recommended by your healthcare provider.
  • Always follow your guide's instructions during safaris. Stay inside vehicles during game drives unless told otherwise.
  • Always ask permission before taking photos of local people, especially in villages.
  • During game drives, always remain inside the vehicle unless your guide says it's safe to step out, like during walking safaris. Animals can be unpredictable, and you must always respect their space.
  • While it's tempting to speak excitedly about the animals you see, keep noise to a minimum to avoid startling the animals and disturbing the experience for others.
  • Always dispose of trash properly and avoid leaving food scraps. Many campsites are in pristine natural areas, so it's important to minimize your impact.
  • Follow the “Leave No Trace” principle and avoid leaving any litter behind. Stick to designated paths and trails to prevent disturbing fragile ecosystems.
  • Citizens do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days in Botswana (but must have a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond entry), and require a visa for Zimbabwe (obtainable on arrival, through the eVisa website, or at the embassy)
